"Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration (Yet again!)
Hi All, I've seen numerous questions related to this and I've tried literally all of the answers and none of them have worked! Reset the router and modem, DHCP service is running properly, System restore didn't work, disabled wireless whilst running wired, IPconfig/release -> IPconfig/renew comes up short and nothing happens. I'm getting really impatient with it now and this is my last cry for help before I chuck my laptop out of the window! Yep I've tried this one, unfortunately it didn't work at all! I've heard some stuff about IPv6 as opposed to IPv4, is this somewhere to look? I think I might also buy a USB wireless adapter and see if that works for me, I'm getting desperate now! :'( @Patrickun - I'll give that a try later, I'm guessing I'll have to download one of the programs and then transfer it to the "troubled" laptop? Thanks for your help so far guys!

Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.223.44(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : This could a laptop problem but it doesn't have to be. When you get 169.254.. it means that your laptop is not able to see DHCP server or router. What you can do is 1. reboot (power cycle) your router 2. Set your wirless connection to use static IP address.

Hi Oliriches The problem you are experiecing is it for business or home use? Is it on one workstation or more that you are experiencing this problem? Have you tried putting the IP address manually on the workstation with the default gateway? Check the services of the workstation and make sure that the DHCP client is running and set on automatic. @Brano I also agree. Lebogang Thobejane

Hi, It's for Home use and it's just on work workstation (my Acer Laptop) which tells me that this isn't a problem with the route as all my housemates devices work fine as well as my phone. Could you please try and explain how I can create a manual IP address with default gateway? DHCP client is running and is set on automatic.

Just a thought, has you try attaching the acer laptop with a lan cable & connect to the router & see whether you get a connection with the proper IP? Btw is this a new laptop which you have never used with this router before & this is your first time trying to get it connected? Lastly is there any third party firewall on the acer laptop itself? @ Daniel that is a good point to connect with Lan cable first to see if a connection can be established. @ Oliriches One thing I forgot to ask can you see the wireless router on your workstation?Lebogang Thobejane

Yes I took my laptop to the router and plugged it in directly in using an Ethernet cable but to no avail. I have used this Laptop and router combo for about 6 months now and I haven't had a problem before. I did have Mcafe antivirus running which I believe used a firewall of some sort but that expired a few months back, so I currently only use the windows firewall. @ LeboThobejane - I can connect to the wireless router but I can't open up it's settings etc. if that's what you mean.

If your mcafee AV comes with a firewall i suggest you to uninstall it, next reboot your laptop & try connecting againPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi, Sorry for the delay I've been very busy over the past few days. The internet is now working on wired and it temporarily worked wirelessly though I can't figure out what made it change. The wireless now shows the same error but wired is working fine. Here's my latest IPconfig... Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
